Solar panels from Viva Energi – and much more: Din Hvidevare Service is leading the way in the green transition
Welcome to Denmark's most environmentally friendly appliance service. At Din Hvidevare Service, sustainability isn't just something we talk about – it's something we act on. For several years we have invested purposefully in green solutions that both reduce our climate footprint and create a better working environment for our employees. So far we have invested over DKK 500,000 in environmental improvements – and we are far from finished.
Solar panels from Viva Energi – 192 m² of green electricity
Back in 2015 we installed a large 192 m² solar installation from Viva Energi. It produces over 26,500 kWh of green electricity a year, equivalent to the electricity use of 11 smaller households. Since it was commissioned – up to February 2024 – we have produced over 220,000 kWh of clean, renewable energy and reduced our CO₂ emissions by more than 15 tonnes a year. This means a large share of the electricity for our building, electric vans and technical equipment now comes straight from the sun – an investment that pays for itself and contributes positively to the future.
Real-time monitoring with Norgo Energy
We have installed a Norgo energy meter that gives us precise, real-time readings of our electricity use – hour by hour, week by week, month by month. A wireless sensor records the data and sends it straight to a display placed visibly in the building, so every employee can follow the current electricity use. It raises awareness – and changes behaviour.
LED lighting – in the office, warehouse and outdoors
In the offices we have replaced the old 2x50W fluorescent tubes in 22 fittings with modern 30W LED fittings with dimmers. This has not only improved the working environment considerably but also cut energy use by 3,850 kWh a year. Outdoors we have replaced four 500W halogen floodlights with four 40W LED lamps, which give far better light and use less than 10% of the electricity. In the warehouse and workshop we have replaced all the old fluorescent tubes with LED tubes from Bright Energy. That means an annual saving of over 5,500 kWh, and with a lifetime of 50,000 hours we no longer need to hire a lift regularly to change tubes. The investment of around DKK 10,000 has already paid for itself – both financially and practically.
Heat pump from Anslut – goodbye to gas
In 2020 we replaced our old gas boiler with an air-to-water heat pump from Anslut. It heats our 150 m² office building and our hot water, using less than 5,000 kWh a year. With a COP of up to 4.2, we get more than four times as much energy back as we use – for an investment of just DKK 20,000. It is a solution that combines efficiency with financial common sense.
Grundfos Alpha2 – an intelligent underfloor heating pump
Our underfloor heating system is fitted with a self-regulating Grundfos pump that adjusts the pressure to demand. The old pump used 100W an hour – the new one uses between 5 and 27W. That saves over 400 kWh a year, and the pump was installed in less than half an hour.
Considered transport – electric vans and energy-efficient vans
We drive a lot – so we have also done a lot. Our current fleet consists of 22 vans, 4 of which are electric. The rest are modern diesel vans in the best energy class (C) – mainly Peugeot Partners, which do up to 17 km/l. We are gradually replacing the vans with electric ones as the technology allows. In the cities electric vans work perfectly, but for jobs in the countryside we still need longer range and faster charging. We follow developments closely and are ready to upgrade the fleet as progress is made.
We invest in the environment – and in people
All our initiatives have not only given us major energy savings and financial benefits – they have also created a better working environment and greater satisfaction among our employees. We see it as a natural part of our responsibility – and we are continuing the journey. Every investment has paid for itself within 1–5 years. At Din Hvidevare Service we put service and the environment first – every day, all year round.
Kind regards
Torben Bennetzen, Managing Director, Din Hvidevare Service
